The Governor announced his plan for implementing ten steps to “A Healthy Virginia” this morning by expanding current programs, adding newly eligible groups, or promoting enrollment in existing programs. Adults and children with serious mental illness will benefit greatly from this initiative as adults with serious mental illness become eligible for Medicaid (through a Waiver) and adult and children’s physical and behavioral health care will be coordinated through a health home model. Also emphasized were dental services for pregnant women, veterans, and the children of the lowest paid state workers who will become eligible for FAMIS.
Clearly there are regulations to be published (and those related to the addition of SMI adults and care coordination for children will have public hearings). It appears, however, that all of the actions this morning can be done without requiring the approval of the General Assembly.
