ANCOR Takes the Lead in Letter to Congress on HCBS Regulation

July 31, 2015

On July 28, a letter that ANCOR spearheaded, signed by more than 40 national disability and aging organizations, was sent to members of Congress to show support for the spirit and intent for the home and community based services (HCBS) rule that was promulgated by CMS, and to urge Congress to ensure that appropriate funding and other policies are in place as the rule is implemented. The letter emphasizes the role of providers and national organizations in educating stakeholders about the rule and its goals. It also acknowledges the legal obligations that states have to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Olmstead doctrine. As providers and individuals served and their families work to comply with the rule, it is key that appropriate funding and polices are in place to permit any necessary transitioning without disruption of services.   The letter is available here.
