And Another Update!

May 14, 2025

Just a quick note – the most recent version of what might be action at the Federal level on Medicaid looks much more manageable; and this will be the time that we are thankful that Virginia is, at it’s heart, a conservative state when it comes to many things.

Because we have not stretched the limits of what could have been done with some of the options,  my read is that the greatest impact will be in out years (inability to expand the “provider taxes”) and the increased frequency of the eligibility determinations by local DSS offices.    There may also be less FMAP for individuals added to the “expansion” population in the future, but not for individuals already enrolled.

Virginia can plan for future impact with far less difficulty that it can reconfigure existing finances and regulations to “retro-fit” a changed reality!  As you know – nothing is final, but everyday the advocacy at all levels seems to be working and someone seems to be listening!
