Good “Q” News!
July 28, 2025
The Board of Counseling had no questions about the revision to the Training Policy for QMHP and QMHP-T that we had worked out with the DHP staff over the past several weeks; so the updated version has been published!
QMHP Training Policy – July 2025
Notably, the Didactic Training Requirements by Core Content which are well described in the document may be met through documentation of hours from any one of four options (described on page 3). Those options include:
A Board-approved provider (see 18VAC115-80-80C) including, but not limited to, Community Services boards, agencies licensed by DBHDS, DOC and DOE may develop and implement a training or onboarding program that covers all of the didactic education content areas and required hours.
Obviously each provider should analyze their current training for both content and hours which would meet the definitions provided on pages 1 & 2 of the policy, and also develop an appropriate “attestation” or similar document to provide along with other necessary information (college course transcripts, etc) for the applicant to provide for registration. Of the topics listed, “human services” is likely to have been provided in an academic setting.
It is incumbent on all providers to be able to provide clear documentation of the training (both content and hours) in order to support our position that this option is both viable and reliable!
