Legislative Update for the 2026 Session!

April 23, 2026

With the notable exception of the Budget Bill (HB30) the members have taken (or have deferred) action on all the other pending items.  Here is a summary:

  • HB5/SB199 – This is the “leave bill” has been returned to the Governor with no action on her suggested changes.  She may veto the bill or, if she does not act within 30 days, the original version becomes law without her signature.
  • HB1263/SB378 – This is the “collective bargaining bill” with a total fiscal impact of over $16M in the first biennium alone without the added staff costs necessary for implementation.  She may veto the bill or, if she does not act within 30 days, the original version becomes law without her signature.   The option of postponing the local government portion until 2030 no longer exists in this year.
  • Other items that we were closely tracking we have reported on in the past.

It is notable that they have scheduled to Special Session (to finalize the 2026-2028 Budget) for 30 April; the Conference Report should, therefore, be available on the 28th!
