Northam Names Karen Kimsey Chief Deputy for DMAS

March 30, 2018

We offer our congratulations to Karen on her new appointment and are very excited that she will continue to oversee “complex care” including those areas of Medicaid that most directly affect our members!  She has always been not only a strong advocate for those individuals we support, but also an active supporter of the provider community. In making the announcement Governor Northam said: “Prior to her appointment, Karen served as the Deputy Director of Complex Care and Services. Karen is an accomplished executive with 23 years of public service with the state Medicaid program. She led the successful development and launch of the Commonwealth Coordinated Care Plus program, the creation of a new addiction and treatment benefit for individuals with substance use disorders, the redesign and implementation of the system that serves individuals with developmental disabilities, and the launch of the Governor’s Access Plan to serve individuals with serious mental illness. Karen received the Governor’s Agency Star Award last year. Karen holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work as well as a Certificate in Aging Studies. Karen is also a proud mom of two sons, Evan and Andrew.”
