Important Notice About Your Medicaid/FAMIS Services: Changes to Community Stabilization
and Mobile Crisis Response Services
The purpose of this notice is to inform you of upcoming changes to your Virginia Medicaid benefits.
Virginia has enacted a new budget law called the 2026 Appropriation Act. It tells Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) to make two changes to your Medicaid/FAMIS benefits.
- Change 1: DMAS will stop paying for a service called Community Stabilization.
- Change 2: DMAS will shorten a service called Mobile Crisis Response. Currently, you can receive up to 8 hours of service at one time. Soon, that number will reduce to 4 hours.
These changes have not started yet. First, a federal agency called the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) must say yes. After CMS says yes, DMAS will send you a letter with the exact start dates for these changes.
