Or Maybe Not!
March 10, 2026
I was, admittedly, being very optimistic with my last “post” that announced “One Week to Go!”. To work backwards from Saturday (which is supposed to be the end of this Session):
- Budget to be passed by both chambers on Saturday – –
- Conference Report must be available on Thursday – –
- Meetings to resolve all remaining issues need to be finished on Wednesday (?) to give staff time to assemble all of the material . . .
- As of 3pm on Tuesday – – no meetings were scheduled!
There is a substantial difference of opinion between Louise Lucas, the Chair of the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee and the Governor/House Appropriations Committee on whether or not to retain the tax break currently in place for data centers. Eliminating the tax break would add ~ $1.6 billion to the budget for other purposes.
Clearly having additional funds make the issues that we care about easier to pay for – refer to our Post of 24 February and note the number of items where we suggest “Support the Senate Option.” Stay tuned . . . . .
