Senate Finance Committee Considers Budget Options

May 15, 2018

At an extended work session yesterday, the full Senate Finance Committee met to consider the options available to decide on a budget for 2019-2020.  The discussion focused primarily on the costs, impact and long term viability of any version of Medicaid expansion.  This presentation by Mike Tweedy, Senate Finance Committee staff, was the focal point of that discussion. Today’s meeting of the full committee will attempt to focus on specific options and take action.  It seemed unclear if they would have a decision on the entire budget prior to their next meeting when they reconvene on May 22nd, but both Committee Co-Chairs assured the assembled audience and the press that they would have a budget in time for the July 1 deadline!
