The “veto” session convened yesterday with minimal affect on the issues which are most important to us. As we noted in the post of 13 April, the Governor had proposed the restoration of the option for up to 16 hours of overtime per week for staff in CD positions; this practice has been in place since January and the original budget had sought the funding to maintain this option.
The General Assembly rejected this particular action by the Governor along with ten other actions out of a total of thirty which he proposed.
While we are concerned about the possible impact on individuals, their families and staff, we are more concerned about the possible precedent that this may be for what will inevitably be a far more costly discussion next year when the new federal overtime rules are in effect.
