Tidying Up After Thanksgiving!
November 29, 2024
We got so excited about the DOL Overtime Rule for January being vacated by the Court, that we do not want to lose track of a couple of things that are still in effect:
- The Virginia mandate to increase the minimum wage on January 1, 2025 from $12.00 per hour to $12.41 per hour is still in effect. Be sure that no one in your organization is earning less than $12.41 per hour or $496.40 for a 40 hour week – of course hours worked in addition to the 40 must be paid at a rate of $18.62 per hour.
- This is also a good time to review the Executive and Administrative Exemption requirements and the requirements for Contract Employees. They were covered by SESCO in the Conference Presentation and in a recent bulletin (both available on the website). You can also refer to the Department of Labor publications on the Fair Labor Standards Act found here.
And, a couple of other thoughts:
- You should have received the announcement from DBHDS that the Manual Auto-Approval for certain Service Authorization Request, announced to begin on December 1st has been postponed. There were some “technical issues” that needed to be resolved, but there were also a number of questions about the process and implications of how a post review would be conducted, etc. We have been working with DBHDS and DMAS and hope that when a new date is set and the memo is republished, it will be much clearer. Thanks to both agencies for being willing to listen to our concerns! And,
- Keep the December 20th Member Call on your calendar! We will have a special guest who will share (from a well informed perspective) what we may expect for Medicaid in the new Trump administration!
In the meantime – – enjoy the rest of the weekend and the leftovers!
